Rules and Proceedings of the Paris International Harp Competition 2027

The Paris International Harp Competition is governed by a rigorous set of rules ensuring fair and transparent conditions for every candidate throughout all rounds.

A four-stage structure. Following the video pre-selection, the successful candidates will compete in Paris from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 October 2027. The eliminatory rounds and the semi-final will take place at the Conservatoire Paul Dukas (Paris 12th arrondissement), while the final will be held at the Salle Cortot (Paris 17th arrondissement). At the end of the first round, the jury will select eight semi-finalists; the semi-final will then designate three finalists.

Strict stage rules. All rounds are open to the public and take place on stage without a screen. The position of the harp is predefined and identical for all candidates. Applause is permitted when candidates enter the stage and at the end of their performance, but not between pieces. Candidates may briefly tune their instrument (1 to 2 minutes maximum) between works. All pieces must be performed from memory and without repeats, with the exception of the contemporary work in the first round. 

A clear code of conduct. From the opening ceremony onwards, any contact between candidates and jury members is forbidden; any questions must be addressed to the President of the Competition. The order of appearance is determined by a draw of a letter of the alphabet and remains the same throughout the competition.

Professional organisation. Harps of various brands and individual rehearsal slots are made available to candidates. The rounds may be broadcast live or on a delayed basis (radio, television, internet) and recorded for communication purposes around the competition. A certificate of participation is issued on request to candidates of the first and second rounds.

The announcement of the prize-winners will take place during the closing ceremony, followed by publication on the competition's website and social media.
