Procedure
The Competition includes a video pre-selection stage, followed by three live rounds open to the public. The first two public rounds are eliminatory.
The list of candidates admitted to the Competition following the pre-selection (maximum 27) will be published on the Competition website from June 15, 2027 onward.
1 - Video Pre-selection Stage
• The recording must be recent and of high quality, uploaded as an unlisted YouTube video, filmed with a fixed camera (a securely mounted mobile phone is acceptable), with the performer’s face and hands clearly visible at all times, unedited, and not exceeding 15 minutes. It must include one Classical or Romantic work and one 20th-21th century work or étude which do not belong to the repertoire of contemporary writing (total of 2 works).
• The two pieces may be recorded separately and edited together into a single file. The titles of the works and the names of the composers (in performance order) must be indicated upon submission, together with the candidate’s full name.
• Applicants must provide a single video link in the registration form (multiple links will not be accepted).
• In addition to the publication of the list of selected candidates, each applicant will be notified of acceptance or rejection by email from June 15, 2027 onward.
• The works submitted for the pre-selection may be performed again during the Competition rounds.
• By submitting their application, candidates authorize the Competition to share the video link with the jury.
• Finalists of the International Harp Competitions of Israel, Bloomington, or Munich (ARD) are exempt from the video pre-selection and are automatically admitted to the first round in Paris. They must upload proof of participation in the relevant competition via the “Registration” page, complete the online form with all required documents, and pay the €120 registration fee at the time of application.
• All works must be performed from memory and without repeats, except for the contemporary works listed in the First-Round program (see section 1.4).
2 - Public Rounds in Paris
• All rounds will be open to the public and will take place on stage without a screen.
• The First Round and Semi-final will take place at the Paul Dukas Conservatory (12th arrondissement, Paris) from October 25 to 28, 2027 inclusive. The Final Round will take place at the salle Cortot (Ecole Normale de Musique, Paris 17th) on October 30, 2027. At the end of the First Round, the jury will select eight semi-finalists. At the end of the Semi-final, three finalists will be selected.
• A fixed position for the harp on stage will be predetermined and marked. This position will be the same for all candidates and may not be changed.
• Applause is permitted when candidates enter the stage and at the end of their performance. It is not permitted between pieces.
• From the opening ceremony onward, candidates may not have any contact with members of the jury. Any questions must be addressed to the Competition President.
Candidates may tune their instrument between pieces, provided that tuning is kept brief (maximum 1 to 2 minutes).
• Harps of various brands and individual practice slots in studios will be available to all registered participants. Participants may use their own instruments at their own risk.
• Prize winners will be announced during the Closing Ceremony, immediately following the jury’s deliberations after the Final Round. Results and prizes will be announced publicly in the auditorium and published on the Competition website and official social media channels following the ceremony.
• Performances may be broadcast live and/or on demand via radio, television, or the internet, and may also be recorded for distribution on various media (CD, DVD, etc.).
• By participating, candidates grant the Competition the right to record, reproduce, and distribute their performances in any format, without financial compensation, for purposes of promotion, communication, and archival use. This authorization is granted for a period of ten years and is renewable for the same duration unless terminated with three months’ notice.
• Participants in the First and Second Rounds may request a certificate of participation.
3 - Draw
• The order of performance will be determined by a draw based on the first letter of each candidate’s surname. This draw will be conducted by the pre-selection jury.
• Except in exceptional circumstances, the performance order will remain unchanged throughout the Competition.
• Candidates must communicate their arrival date and time in advance and inform the Competition by email of any delay or cancellation as soon as possible.
